ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Don Domingo Yu Chu

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The increasing population, together with the growing demands of Poleños for a free and quality secondary education, has called for the foundation and establishment of Domingo Yu Chu National High School (DYCNHS) in 1996, one of the biggest and fastest growing secondary schools in the Division of Oriental Mindoro.

Domingo Yu Chu National High School is named after a Chinese businessman, Don Domingo Yu Chu, who migrated to the Philippines. He was the father of the late Bienvenido Yu, a Chinese benefactor, who decided to make his father’s dream come true by donating hectares of school site to the municipal government.

DYCNHS is located in Barangay Maluanluan which is seven kilometers away from Poblacion. The site is 500 meters away from the Pola-Socorro National Road passing through vast hectares of rice fields. Its school ground is 2.34 hectares with mango trees surrounding the area. The manicured grass has shown an ambient aura of beauty which makes the school an ideal place for athletic meets.

DYCNHS is strategically situated free from hazardous elements which may have been a contributing factor to the increasing student population despite a number of high schools located sporadically around the municipality. It has four satellite schools – Matulatula, Bacawan, Calima and Tagumpay – which become the partners of the mother school in its goal of making education accessible to all especially for those in the hinterlands and remote areas of the town. However, these satellite schools are now operating independently as stipulated in DepEd policies.

For twenty five years of its existence as an academic institution, Domingo Yu Chu National High School remains steadfast in its thrust and commitment of producing competent and skilled graduates. In pursuit of this thrust, the school has adapted various curricula and has devised special programs that will promote the optimum and holistic development of every learner. The school started to offer the Special Program in Foreign Language with concentration in Spanish in 2010 and Chinese Mandarin in 2013. To date, the school remains the only school in the division with SPFL- Spanish and the only school in the region with the Mandarin Language. The institution has also produced a number of athletes who represented the province in the MIMAROPARAA and Palarong Pambansa through its Special Program in Sports which also started to operate in 2010. The school also takes pride of its Science, Technology and Engineering Program, formerly ESEP, which is aimed at meeting and responding to growing students’ needs and interests.

At present, the school continues to make a name in different competitions in the division, regional and national levels be it in the field of sports, academics, foreign language, journalism and other school related activities and competitions alongside with the physical development that it undertakes.
